board game publisher - London
Cumulus is an observation game. You play it while facing a window. You watch the sky. You describe what you see. Everyone guesses what you are describing.
One player is the Observer. They look out the window and describe cloud formations, light patterns, or weather changes. The other players cannot see what the Observer sees. They must visualise the description and guess whether certain clouds or features exist.
Requires one external window. Any direction. Any season.
Cumulus comes with:
The Observer sits facing the window. They have five minutes to describe the current sky to the group. They can see the actual sky but cannot point or reference landmarks. The other players guess which features exist.
After five minutes, the Observer reveals what they actually saw. Points go to players whose guesses match reality.
Round length varies. If your view is clear and unobstructed, rounds are shorter. If you are looking at a cloudy or featureless sky, rounds can extend to fifteen minutes.
Best played on days with changing weather. Worst played on completely clear or completely overcast days.
Tabletop Miscellany reviewed Cumulus in November 2014. They wrote: "a game that requires a window." We appreciate this. We call it a game that requires attention. The two are the same thing.
Cumulus sold out in 2015. Approximately ninety copies were produced. Current availability through secondhand retailers only.
